Rat Mesentery Angiogenesis Assay
The adult rat mesentery window angiogenesis assay is biologically appropriate and is exceptionally well suited to the study of sprouting angiogenesis in vivo [see review papers], which is the dominating form of angiogenesis in human tumors and non-tumor tissues, as discussed in invited review papers(1,2). Angiogenesis induced in the membranous mesenteric parts by intraperitoneal (i.p.) injectio...
متن کاملRat Mesentery Exteriorization: A Model for Investigating the Cellular Dynamics Involved in Angiogenesis
Microvacular network growth and remodeling are critical aspects of wound healing, inflammation, diabetic retinopathy, tumor growth and other disease conditions. Network growth is commonly attributed to angiogenesis, defined as the growth of new vessels from pre-existing vessels. The angiogenic process is also directly linked to arteriogenesis, defined as the capillary acquisition of a perivascu...
متن کاملQuantification of Angiogenesis on the Rat Aortic Ring Assay
Image analysis is used to quantify angiogenesis on the rat aortic ring model. This technique allows to determine: (1) the aortic ring area and factor shape; (2) the number of microvessels, the total number of branching, the maximal microvessel length and the number of microvessels in function of the distance to the aortic ring; (3) the total number of isolated fibroblast-like cells and the numb...
متن کاملA corneal micropocket assay for angiogenesis in the rat eye.
A corneal micropocket assay for angiogenesis in the rat eye is described in detail. With our test system, a partially purified, low molecular-weight endothelial cell growth stimulatory factor isolated from the Walker 256 rat carcinosarcoma is demonstrated to have potent angiogenic activity in vivo. The advantages and applications of our rat corneal assay are discussed.
متن کاملMicrovascular oxygen tension in the rat mesentery.
Longitudinal Po(2) profiles in the microvasculature of the rat mesentery were studied using a novel phosphorescence quenching microscopy technique that minimizes the accumulated photoconsumption of oxygen by the method. Intravascular oxygen tension (Po(2), in mmHg) and vessel diameter (d, in microm) were measured in mesenteric microvessels (n = 204) of seven anesthetized rats (275 g). The excit...
